SUMMER

WORKSHOPS

 (Learn to Sew)

Our three-hour workshops are great for all students and skills levels and will get you up to speed on using the machines and being comfortable in the studio. All workshops run during the morning or afternoon.

This course is a prerequisite for the four-day Summer Camps.

Skills

New sewers will make a complete project all the while learning how to use a sewing machine. This will include how to so a straight and curved line, seam allowances, and seam finishes.

During the workshop, we might also cut basic patterns, cover simple construction methods including how to pin and prepare our fabric for sewing. By completing one of our workshops new sewing will be sufficiently prepared to start a bigger sewing challenge at one of our fantastic camps. Sewers can take as many workshops as they like, all are unique and offer amazing starter projects and the ‘Learn to sew’ start to the class is always great refresher and good practice.

SUMMER CAMPS

Prerequisite: New students must have completed at least one workshop.

In La Movida’s four-day camps, sewers will be encouraged to customize their projects for personal fit and style. Students are always given the opportunity to choose their own fabrics from a wide selection provided by our house design team.

Skills

We will spend our first day designing and creating a design sheet and spec sheet. We will then use this important document to guide users through the pattern choices and changes. Students will learn to lay out fabric, pattern placement and cutting techniques to ensure a great outcome. There will be a short review of the specific sewing skills needed to complete the project and then right into sewing. Sewers will learn about grainlines, seam finishes, and allowances. When to straight stitch or zigzag, we might explore how to make a casing, add a zipper or button hole and how to complete a final fitting making sure our project is ready for hemming or finishing.

Choose morning or afternoon, or stay all day! Three-hour camps
