• Prerequisite: Intro to Sew or relevant sewing experience
• 2 hour class each week

Skills & Techniques

• Work with woven fabrics
• Intro to sewing with stable knits (sweatshirt knit, ribbing, etc)
• How to choose the right fabric for your project
• Learn proper pattern layout to reduce fabric waste
• Learn basic sewing terminology
• Project-based skills include: inserting elastic into waistband casing, hemming, sewing on neckbands, rib cuffs and waistband, sewing pockets, etc

Class 1: Project selection, learn basic fabric knowledge (hand, weight, drape and fibre content, care), take personal measurements, fabric selection, design sheets

Class 2: Learn how to layout your fabric (selvage, grainline, etc), how to read pattern pieces, make simple pattern modifications (shorten or lengthen, add rise to pants, adjust leg width, etc), pattern layout, proper cutting techniques, practice sewing on machine

Class 3: Sewing and construction

• Our Intro to Sew Workshop (or equivalent sewing experience) is a prerequisite for this course
• Recommended for students to complete a minimum of 24 hours of Sewing Level 1 classes (or completed at least 2 out of the 12 beginner projects) before advancing to Sewing Level 2
• New Students are subject to a one-time $5 registration fee

Skills & Techniques

• Work with different weights of woven fabric
• Learn how to sew with light to medium weight knits
• Learn how to adjust thread tension accordingly for different fabric
• Project-based skills include: How to put in a zipper (separable, invisible), sew buttons and buttonholes using the sewing machine, sew collars, darts, plackets
