Rainy season is almost here in Vancouver, so as we transition our classes from summer camps to after school & our fabrics from flowy to fluffy, let’s take a closer look at this fall trends and what we could be inspired to sew!
The Trends
When checking for the seasons trends there are a few things that we do
- Look at that seasons RTW runways
- Look at what is currently in stores
- Create Pinterest Mood Boards
- Check with students and staff
Doing our best to stay current on all the fashion trends is one of the best parts of the job because it means lots of window shopping.
After we accumulate all of our inspiration, the team puts together mood boards in each room!

Bomber Jackets
We are bringing back our bomber jackets in our youth afterschool sewing program for good reason.
For a while now we have been seeing variations on this jacket in every store, it it’s super versatile and customizable which makes our youth students love it.
Funky Pants
I love a funky pant, don’t you? The perfect way to make a unique outfit, and what better way to have the funkiest pants in the room by sewing?

Baseball T-shirts
Also known as a raglan t-shirt, these are actually some of the easiest t-shirts to sew.
These are also a great way to upcyle old t-shirts! So if you’re looking for an environmentally friendly sewing project, give this a try!

Flannels
This is one of those trends where I’m enamoured how often it comes back into style.
Did you know that this look was created on this side of the coast? It originated in the Seattle punk scene and quickly made its way to Vancouver in the 90’s.
Something fun that I’ve been seeing all over social media is upcycled and patchwork flannels, so while I’m not including a free pattern, I am linking some Inspo below!
